Welcome to macTALK, the official email-based discussion group of the Yorkshire Mac Users Group (YMUG)...

macTALK exists for the exchange tips, ideas, requests for help, news and general chat. Friendly and unmoderated, but subscription is solely intended as a free service for members of YMUG.

Created on November 10th 2001, macTALK has proved to be a popular and invaluable resource for members of YMUG - the UK's biggest Apple Macintosh user group. Membership of macTALK is totally free to members of YMUG and hopefully, with your help, we can keep it that way indefinitely. To see how you can help keep macTALK free, please read the sections entitled "Supporting macTALK".

Subscribing to macTALK...

Subscription is via a form on this website or by email, and sometimes by invitation. Usually an email will be sent requesting confirmation of your wish to subscribe in order that you are not subscribed gratuitously by a third party. Once confirmation is received, your request will be held for approval by the list administrator and you will be notified of the decision by email as soon as possible. The fact that subscription is subject to approval is mainly so that we can check you are a member of YMUG. If you aren't a member, don't worry as it is very cheap to join YMUG (currently only £5 per year!). As soon as you have joined, simply return to the macTALK pages and try to subscribe once again.

Note that as this is a private list, the list of macTALK members is not available to non-members.

Using macTALK...

To post a message to all the list members, send an email to:
macTALK@mactalk.org.uk

You can elect whether to receive the list mail in individual emails, or in a 'digest' version where the emails are compiled into a single large email at regular intervals or size increments.

To browse the collection of prior postings to the list, visit the:
macTALK messages (for quick reference of the most recent messages),
or for a more in-depth search, go to the:
macTALK archives (where you can search by date, subject, thread, author, general keyword, or a mixture of these).

Supporting macTALK...

Totally free! That's macTALK! Always has been, always will be!

However, macTALK is provided by me, a YMUG member, at my own expense - and it's not cheap! Only the bare expenses are now reimbursed by YMUG, leaving the actual load to me, in terms of time and effort for development and administration tasks and extra costs. I have always intended that macTALK will not be a burden on the YMUG coffers, as they already support the official YMUG website. To find out how you can help to narrow the gap between what it costs me and what it costs you, please take a moment to read the section called SUPPORT macTALK by clicking the button above. I stress that I do not ask for donations (though they will not be refused)!

Please take a moment to support macTALK!

Getting the most from macTALK...

I am planning to produce reference materials - in the form of QuickTime movies on a CD, and standalone documents in PDF format - to help you get the best out of macTALK and its many new features.

Details will appear here in the not-too-distant future.

Please feel free to participate in macTALK, or just 'lurk' if you prefer; but in any case, I hope you will enjoy using macTALK!
